Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers (ARBs)

arbs

Definition: These medications are used to block the activity of a hormone that causes the blood vessels to narrow. By doing so, ARBs make it easier for blood to flow and reduce blood pressure. In addition to this, ARBs increase the release of sodium and water into urine which also contributes to lower blood pressure.

Examples of angiotensin II receptor blockers include: Azilsartan (Edarbi); Candesartan (Atacand); Eprosartan (Teveten); Irbesartan (Avapro); Losartan (Cozaar); Telmisartan (Micardis); Olmesartan (Benicar); Valsartan (Diovan). Which angiotensin II receptor blocker is best for you depends on your health condition being treated and you should consult with your treating physician.
