Definition: The Batista procedure, also known as a partial left ventriculectomy, is used to treat irreversible heart failure. The purpose of this surgery decrease the size of the left ventricle cavity, reverse congestive heart failure, and improve left ventricular function. This surgery is not successful in the long term, but has helped better surgical procedures for heart failure.
