Definition: Ejection Fraction is a measurement that helps one determine how well their heart is pumping out blood with every beat and is used to help diagnose and track heart failure.

Examples: An ejection fraction of 55 percent tells you that 55 percent of the total amount of blood within the left ventricle of the heart is pushed out with each heartbeat. A normal heart’s ejection fraction is generally between fifty and seventy. Heart failure or cardiomyopathy may be suggested by a measurement of under 40 and heart conditions like hpertrophic cardiomyopathy may be suggested with a measurement greater than 75 percent..
