Enhanced External Counterpulsation (EECP)

eecp

Definition: Enhanced External Counterpulsation (EECP) is a alternate treatment for patients with coronary artery disease who are not suitable for revascularization, like heart bypass surgery. During this procedure, a cuff is placed around the thighs, calves, and buttocks and then inflated and deflated. This action causes the blood vessels in the lower limbs to be firmly, but gently compressed. This results in the stimulation of collateral vessels to create a natural bypass around blocked arteries.
