Definition: Fat is a high-energy source of fuel that the human body requires to continue working properly. There are many types of fat including monounsaturated fat, polyunsaturated fat, trans fat, omega-3, 6, 7, 9 fatty acids, and saturated fat.

Examples: Along with protein and carbohydrates, fat is one of the three main macronutrients our body needs to function. Fats are broken down in our body by enzymes produced in the pancreas called lipases.
