Definition: High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL) are one of the five major categories of lipoproteins. HDL is also known as “good cholesterol.” These particles move through the bloodstream and remove cholesterol from places it should not be.

Example: Having a high level of HDL decreases your risk for heart disease but low levels of HDL can increase your risk.
